Character Art, Environment Art, Game Animation and Game Development for Leopallooza

This project was part of a 6 month task where I acted as the game artist and game developer for ‘Leopallooza: The Game’.  Leopallooza is an annual outdoor event held in a wooded valley near the North Cornish coast run by a close group of friends. The site is permanent and always evolving with wooden structures making up the arena field. It started as a free houseparty in a field and although a lot more organised and sober now, we hope it still has the feel and ethos of the first.

The first step involved creating a range of characters and environments that matched the games structure and storyline as proposed by Leopallooza. This was achieved by firstly coming up with a range of characters that you would typical find within a wooden valley. From here, I started the sketching process and then progressed onto the colour schemes and then into a vector phase. I then went on to extracting the parts of the character to begin the animation process. This was repeated for all the characters and landscape assets.

The last step involved the game development for Google Android and Apple iPhone. The next few months I began developing the game in C++ so that I could port the game’s code over to iPhone and Android without having to code in two separately different languages.

Testimonials

As a design company, we have always had our own ideas of how something should look and the style we wanted to use, Dean was great at creating the websites and 3D modelling for our products.

Always readily available for updates and small changes that are constantly needed throughout the development of the site. The work from the start has always been top quality, but as projects have moved on quality has actually improved to levels we hadn’t thought available are now present on our sites.

With limited knowledge on the more technical side of website design such as SEO, Dean was always happy to take the lead and offer help with setting up the parts of the website we hadn’t originally thought of as directly important.

We have worked on many sites with Dean and continually try to keep the websites up to date on the both the Design and Technical sides of it and look forward to working together on future projects.
