Michelle from Shell Belle Couture requested a bespoke wholesale ecommerce website in addition to a bespoke ecommerce consumer website.
There were several requirements that both websites had to meet, these included: a design which portrayed the style and feel of luxury purchases, product browsing which offered cross-sales of related products, stock management, automated emailing if carts have been abandoned, order and payment management.
As a experienced UK, Cornwall based Magento developer, when combined with the Amazon like functionality requested, it was an obvious choice to use Magento’s Ecommerce system. Given the bespoke features requested, using Magento’s module system made it very easy to extend the current core module system, especially the ability to customise and change the functionality within the Admin system which was also requested.

Steph approached me to design a logo for hew new startup company in Camelford called – The Kernow Play House. She requested that the logo had a Cornish flag in it, leaving the rest to my imagination – which is really good as it allows me to explore different trends.
Steph mentioned that its a soft play area aimed at ages between 0-10 years. With this in mind, I started designing a logo. I immediately started designing a cartoon house with curves and bouncing objects that you would typically see in children’s programmes like cbeebies However, Steph, soon rejected this idea. I then started using painted hand prints as the focus point of the logo, with the Cornish Flag positioned in the middle of the prints. As soon as this was sent Steph replied back with “Ahhhhhh I love it !!!!!!!”

After being recommended by NineDesign, Are and R approached me to redevelop their current website to be more robust and welcoming.
The new website is split into clear sections using silhouette icons, and provides visitors with plenty of information about all the services Are and R offer; Renewable Energy & Solar PV, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Bespoke Custom Lighting, Campsite Electrics, Electrical Installation and LED Lighting. A bespoke animated banner was developed that gave the website some life whilst also making it a bit different and allowing the team to easily update the pictures.
The site is completely responsive and looks great on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Jo and Lucy from Bar 35 approached me to design and develop a new website, the aim of which was to advertise all of their live music events whilst making the website ‘different’ to anything that has been seen before.
Bar 35 specialises in live music events, supporting local and national bands across multiple genres. Their venue is the perfect for live music, with a relaxed atmosphere, accompanied by quirky design with flourishes around the interior.
I immediately suggested using their flourishes as the border/frame around the window of the website. I also suggested using hand drawn sketches to illustrate the presence of live music and fun as opposed to the boring black colour backgrounds’ or pictures that you typically see with most websites.
This project was awesome as it allowed me to develop and design a website that you don’t typically see.

Justin from The Bank At Bude in North Cornwall approached me with the aim of revamping his current website to advertise his tapas food and cocktail bar, with a particular emphasis placed on displaying The Bank’s current offers .
I designed the website by following The Bank’s current branding theme of quirky and vibrant colours. In addition to incorporating vibrant colours, I broke outside of the current box model by using quirky shapes and sizes. The site is designed with the hope that people will find it more engaging and interactive. To complete the site remit, a booking form and live chat facility were developed at the bottom of each page, implemented to attract visitors into reserving a table at The Bank.

I’ve been working with Tom at Rosie’s Kitchen/Starboard in Bude for quite some time now, with their menu designs, website, posters and leaflets – pretty much anything graphical.
Because Tom has been pleased with my work and having just taken over the Revolution restaurant, he approached me to produce some new menu designs as well as revamping the website with a new temporary page, until a new complete site is ready.
Tom decided that he would like the menu to be a DIY list whereby you tick against the ingredients you would like in the burger or hot dog. This process ultimately speeds up the waiting time between customers and the staff when ordering, which is great news for everyone.
Visit the temporary Revolution website to see the new menus.
Miles Lee-Hargreaves is an international established surfer (sponsored by Billabong) who wanted to setup as a mobile instructor for extreme surf coaching in and around the Bude, Cornwall area.
I wanted to push the brand in a direction that made the potential customers feel the surf lessons would be fun and most importantly would be more of a learning curve than your typical surf instructor. The brief for the site was simple; it should shout internationally experienced surfer, providing high quality surf coaching and a brand you can trust.
I designed the website to have interactive blue coloured elements that were minimal and flat, this creates a modern design that reflects the clean feel of the whole site.
The final result was something that reflects a fun and internationally experienced surf instructor that loves his job but at the same time is professional. Fun project to be had!

BAAMFest aims to promote and create arts and music events in the Bude area, offering the community opportunities to gather in a relaxed and friendly environment, to create, enjoy and learn.
As the website developer, my task involved designing an illustration of the Castle grounds where the festival takes place, followed by a website design and development to showcase all the activities and events happening at the festival. Overall, I am really happy with the illustration design and website.
BAAM has worked with Dean for the last 2 years. He helped us set up a website for BAAMfest 2015 and it was a great experience. After the festival Dean was more than kind to help us revamp the website and personalise it. After initial brainstorming he successfully translated our sketchy ideas into a vibrant website. He has always made time to accommodate our requests and assist with hiccups. He is very easy to communicate with and is fast responsive. I particularly like his work cause he has a strong understanding of how to illustrate and communicate ideas through design. Last but not least Dean has worked voluntarily with us all this time, which speaks volumes for his ethos and character.

Sam from Seiche in Bradworthy, Devon was looking for a website design to promote a new underwater marine listening device called LSTN2.
The requirements for the website design was for it to be quirky, easy to navigate and mostly importantly to look cool. As the device is for listening sounds underwater, I recommended animating water bubbles from the bottom to the top of the website to visualise the underwater sea.
Furthermore, to make the website a bit quirky. I recommended hanging a cable down the page connecting to the LSTN2 device whilst also using it as a navigation.

This project involved branding, website design and development for a Sampson Solicitors starting up in Bude, Cornwall.
The first task involved branding for Sampson Solicitors, and with the help of the client’s research (Sampson), the overall process was made simple. The logo that was produced was simple, easy to understand and most of all, memorable – exactly as they wanted it.
With the logo established the rest of the design process was straightforward. The only requirement was to embed the logo into the website and make it a key feature. The end result included the logo directly into the background of the website as a watermark with the key web elements peeking through it. The website itself was built using standard technologies such as jquery, php and xhtml. Some seamless animations were however embedded to give users a more friendly experience.
This project was undertaken as part of my employment with MD Web Solutions (www.md-websolutions.co.uk). All images and project information published with permission from MD Web Solutions.
